I had always wanted to be an interior designer but for so many years I had told myself that I could not afford to complete a course. Even if I could afford the course fees, where was I ever going to find the time to study?
After years of doing nothing about pursuing my dream, I decided that you only live once. My partner, family and all of my friends were unbelievably supportive. They believed in me so I decided to believe in myself too.
After searching the Internet and reading about the various correspondence courses on offer, I discovered The Interior Design Academy’s Professional Interior Design Course. I felt that it was the one for me.
The course was even more fantastic then I ever imagined. The knowledge, skills and inspiration I received are invaluable. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. My tutor was amazing, coming back to me in a timely manner whenever I emailed with a question or thought. The marking of my assignments was incredibly in depth and really helped me to develop my skills further. If I had difficulty understanding something, all I had to do was ask and I would be given all the additional information I required.
My final assignment was based on a redesign of a friend’s beauty salon. The décor had not been touched in some 18 years. Whilst it seemed like such a large scale and daunting task to take on for my first project, I came up with a design that my friend loved and decided to implement. The work has just been completed and it’s amazing to see the final result of my first ever design.
A short four and half months after completing my studies, I have started my own interior design company, Sublime Quarters Interior Design, specialising in, but is no way limited to, sustainable interior design.
I had only just gotten my business to the point of starting to market it when I received the opportunity to submit a quotation to style an eco-friendly display home, in the display village of a popular new suburb in Townsville. I cannot tell you how excited and proud I was when I heard that my quotation was accepted and this project is due to start soon.
I thought I would wait until this project was under my belt before I really started to concentrate on the marketing side of my business. After all, the photos of past projects would really help I thought. Much to my surprise however, I received a phone call the other day from a gentleman wanting some design advice for his full house renovation. I truly cannot believe that I have had two clients contact me already and I am still yet to really market my business. This makes me extremely excited to see what might happen when I have this completed.
I cannot thank The Interior Design Academy enough for giving me the opportunity and confidence to follow my dreams. To do what I love most and be my own boss. I could not have done it without them.
