Taking The First Step
Confidence is the first step in starting any journey. The Professional Interior Design Course on offer by The Interior Design Academy was the first pivotal step I took to embark on my career in the interior design industry.
I have always had an absolute passion for colour and pattern, and love creating bright, bold creative interiors that have a definite sense of fun and individuality. This interior design school assisted me in developing the essential core skills and building the fundamental principles of design needed in order to pursue my dreams. I have found that having a unique perspective along with a healthy dose of self-confidence is paramount in order to set out in this industry. This diploma course assisted me in developing these skills.
Explore Your Passions
My personal style is an accumulation of my interests and passions as a young designer inspired by music, street-culture, art and fashion. I am very much influenced by the surf/skate culture in Australia, and love to create and style bold interiors with a touch of rock & roll, that are fearless with colour and accessories. The confidence I’ve gained through completing the diploma course is what led me to stay true to myself and further develop my own interior style.
I have been very fortunate to have had many amazing opportunities offered to me since finishing the Professional Interior Design Course. I was offered a freelance magazine styling position with a European fashion magazine; one week prior to completing the course. The editor of the magazine offered me a reoccurring position writing and also styling interior design photos with a fashionable edge. A year later, I am now interior design/Living Editor of the magazine. It is a position which allows me to combine my two passions: fashion and interiors.
I have also had my home featured in numerous popular interior design/fashion blogs and websites. Including; “Made By Girl”, “The Chic Element” and by “The Fashion Institute” as one of their ‘fashionable, inspiring spaces’. My styling work was also recently covered in the decorating ‘how-to’ book Home Décor: 7 Secrets of the Chic Woman. These have all been lovely accomplishments for me as a designer.
Begin Your Journey
The Academy was truly the beginning of my journey; the course was informative, interesting and creative. The resources were brilliant and the assistance and feedback provided by my tutor was invaluable. It needs to be said that creating your own ‘style’ is incredibly important in interior design. But before you can do this you need formal education to understand the backbone of interior design, and the Professional Interior Design Course provides you with it.
Overall, it was a great experience which I would fully recommend to anyone who has a passion for interiors and would like to embark on a creative, fulfilling career in interior design.
